Catacomb of Torment #7

If you’ve been craving the kind of twisted tales that made EC Comics a household name in the 1950s, horror host The Tormentor has been saving a blood-drenched new series just for you. Catacomb of Torment emerged from the ashes of Epitaphs from the Abyss in July 2025, ushering in a new horror host with an unhealthy interest in human anatomy and an insatiable appetite for macabre storytelling.

The centerpiece of January 2026’s joyously depraved New Year’s revelry brings writers Meghan Fitzmartin (Tim Drake: Robin), Sarah Gailey (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Greg Pak (World War Hulk) as they raise – and drop! – the guillotine on their terrifyingly talented artistic collaborators, including Eric Battle (Hardware), Tom Fowler (The Books of Magic), and Sami Kivelä (Abbott). Heads will roll! (That’s what we’re hoping for, heh heh!)

So grab your copy of issue #7, hold onto your head (if it’s still attached), and remember: no one escapes the Catacomb of Torment. The only question is whether you’re brave enough to venture inside in the first place.

Previously on Catacomb of Torment

Issue #1 (July 2025)

The debut issue set the tone with master storytellers John Arcudi (B.P.R.D.) & Tonci Zonjic (Black Hammer: Skulldigger & Skeleton Boy), Matt Kindt (BRZRKR) & David Lapham (Stray Bullets), and Marguerite Bennett (Batwoman) & Dan McDaid (Shazam!) delivering three blisteringly brutal tales. As if that wasn’t enough, the 40-page first issue included a surprise classic from the EC vaults, painstakingly remastered and restored to its original coloring.

Issue #2 (August 2025)

The knife twisted deeper as Matt Bors (Toxic Avenger), Evan Dorkin (Beasts of Burden), and Jeremy Lambert (Doom Patrol) joined forces with artists Kano (Action Comics), Lukas Ketner (Count Crowley), and Fabiana Mascolo (Catwoman) to navigate the catacombs by torchlight. Each crank of the rack tightened, bringing more taut tales of mayhem and murder spilling forth like viscera.

Issue #3 (September 2025)

When the Tormentor says it’s time to “feast your eyes,” she means it literally. Writers Ryan Haddock (The Brothers Flick), J. Holtham (Hulu’s A Handmaid’s Tale), and Joanne Starer (Fire & Ice) collaborated with artists Valeria Burzo (EC’s Epitaphs from the Abyss), Sami Kivelä (Abbott), and Christopher Mitten (Hellboy & The B.P.R.D.) to explore the darkness within our own thoughts. The standout story “Intrusive Thoughts” by Starer and Mitten delved into psychological horror, proving that the worst terrors come from your own mind.

Issue #4 (October 2025)

The scalpels came out as John Arcudi, Patricia A. Jackson (Star Wars: Tales from the Empire), and Amy Roy (EC’s Epitaphs from the Abyss) worked with artists Shawn Martinbrough (Thief of Thieves), Fabiana Mascolo (Catwoman), and Shawn McManus (Fables). The issue delivered a murder mystery with extra-added murder, a seamstress seeking sartorial revenge, and a gardener taking pruning shears to an extra-bloody bloom.

Issue #5 (November 2025)

Manacled writers Christopher Cantwell (Out of Alcatraz), Evan Dorkin (Beasts of Burden), and Paul Tobin (The Witcher) were forced to turn the crank alongside artists PJ Holden (2000 AD), Lukas Ketner (Count Crowley), and Dan McDaid (Epitaphs from the Abyss). The creative lineup represented a who’s who of modern comic book horror, with Cantwell bringing his tense character-focused narratives and Dorkin his signature blend of horror and dark comedy.

Issue #6 (December 2025)

As winter’s chill descended, the Tormentor’s rusty testing needle probed for warm vertebrae. Writers Dave Baker (Mary Tyler MooreHawk), Matt Bors (The Toxic Avenger), and Rachel Werner (The Glam World Tour) prepared a frantic feast of fatal delights with artists Justin Greenwood (Immortal Thor), Shawn McManus (Fables), and Claire Roe (Batgirl). The standout story “The Composite Man” from Bors and Roe showcased the anthology’s continued commitment to twisted narratives.
