Dutch Masters of Modern Prog – TEXTURES – Rise Again

When Textures announced their disbandment back in 2018, it felt like a tectonic shift in the world of progressive metal. A void opened — one filled with dissonant riffs, polyrhythmic ghosts, and the collective heartbreak of fans who’d grown up on Silhouettes, Dualism, and Phenotype.

Six years later, that void finally collapses. The Dutch pioneers are back with “At the Edge of Winter,” the second single from their long-awaited comeback album Genotype, arriving January 23rd via Kscope. And if this song is any indication, Textures haven’t just returned – they’ve evolved.

A Symphony of Chaos and Clarity

Featuring Charlotte Wessels (ex-Delain) on guest vocals, At the Edge of Winter is an icy monolith of sound – a track that blends shimmering synths, bone-rattling riffs, and Textures’ signature labyrinth of grooves. Wessels’ ethereal vocals swirl above Remko Tielemans’ thunderous bass work and Bart Hennephof’s precision guitar craftsmanship, creating something that’s both brutal and beautiful.

The accompanying music video, directed by Tielemans himself, captures the introspective spirit of the song — a study in solitude, emotion, and the quiet violence of inner reflection.

From Phenotype to Genotype – A Conceptual Rebirth

For longtime fans, Genotype isn’t just another chapter – it’s a genetic mutation. Acting as the conceptual counterpart to 2016’s Phenotype, this record doesn’t rehash the past. It reconstructs it.

“It’s not a continuation but a rebirth,” the band explains. “Written from scratch, self-produced, and entirely new.”

Mixed by Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus), Genotype distils everything that defines Textures: technical complexity, emotional depth, and a fearless commitment to evolution. Lyrically, the album gives voice to the unheard – the introverts, the outsiders, and those navigating invisible internal worlds.

It’s not just prog metal; it’s catharsis turned mathematical.

The TEXTURES Legacy Lives On

Since their inception, Textures have been the thinking fan’s metal band – the architects of sound who fused the technical with the emotional. They’ve headlined massive festivals across India, conquered Europe’s biggest stages (Hellfest, Wacken, Graspop, Brutal Assault), and earned the kind of cult following most bands can only dream of.

Now, as they prepare to hit the road with Jinjer in early 2026, Textures are once again proving why they remain one of the most vital, genre-defining forces in modern metal.

At the Edge of Winter isn’t just a comeback track – it’s a resurrection. A signal flare fired from the icy heart of progressive metal’s best-kept secret. Textures aren’t back to remind you who they were. They’re here to show you what metal can still become.
